Theodoros Papafotiou

Doctoral Student

Theodoros Papafotiou is a PhD candidate in Robotics, Control, and Intelligent Systems at EPFL, working at the Reconfigurable Robotics Lab (RRL). He is developing autonomous, reconfigurable robotic platforms for space exploration and adaptive environments.

His research explores intelligent modular systems capable of real-time sensing, navigation, and transformation, with a focus on origami-inspired morphologies and distributed control strategies. These systems are designed to operate in dynamic, unstructured environments, with potential applications ranging from in-orbit operations to planetary surface tasks.

With a solid foundation in robotic system integration, embedded control, and autonomous decision-making, Theodoros has led multiple interdisciplinary projects, including autonomous driving platforms and nanosatellite systems. His work bridges the gap between modular robotics and smart autonomy, aiming to create systems that adapt seamlessly to their surroundings and mission goals.
